About this Event
86 East 8th Street, Holland, MI 49423-3504
http://hope.edu/concertsPHOX is a six-piece alternative folk / indie pop band from Wisconsin. What originally started out as friends making folk songs turned into a self-released 2013 “video EP,” “Confetti,” and now, a debut self-titled full-length, the group’s first on Partisan Records. PHOX went from a local band with a strong following in 2012, to high-profile performances at Lollapalooza in Chicago Illinois, and the iTunes Fest in London, England, in 2013. They have appeared on National Public Radio’s “Tiny Desk Concert,” and performed at festivals such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Firefly, Summerfest, Sasquatch, and the inaugural Eaux Claires Music and Arts Festival.
The concert will open with The Soil and the Sun, which originated in 2008 as a two-piece act based out of a basement in Chicago, and is now an eight-piece group based out of Grand Rapids. The band describes its sound as “corn-fed, Michigan-made New Mexican Space Music, or Experiential Spiritual Folk.” The band’s last recording, “Meridian,” won the Local Spin of the Year for 2014.
