Come hear world-renowned cellist Amir Eldan give a concert and master class at Hope College! At age 22, Mr. Eldan became the youngest member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York, when he won the position of Associate Principal Cellist. He served as Principal Cellist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and as guest Principal Cellist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he has collaborated in performances with members of the Cleveland, Guarneri, Juilliard and Tokyo String Quartets, the Beaux Arts Trio, and pianist Richard Goode. In 2006, while working on his doctorate, Mr. Eldan was appointed Cello Professor at the Oberlin Conservatory where he also served as Chair of the String Department. In 2019, he was appointed Cello Professor at the University of Michigan.
The master class will be held on Monday, April 3 at 7:30pm in the Jack H. Miller Center for the Arts Recital Hall, and will feature Hope students Keegan Young, Jonah Whalen, Emma Hakken, Caroline Madison, and Katie Rae Hayduk, and pianist Jane Bosko. The program will include the Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 5, the first and second movements of Henry Eccles’ Cello Sonata in G minor, and the first movement of Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1.
The master class is free and open to the public.
