Intellectual Property Issues With Computer Software by G. Tom Williams, McGarry Bair Law Firm, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In this talk, I will present a summary of what intellectual property is and then a deeper dive into the tests for patentability and the particulars of whether a computer software
implementation is even eligible for a patent. This will be followed by a discussion of copyright issues, including work made for hire issues. Finally, time permitting, I will do
some storytelling around issues created by the rise of AI and the fact that the law hasn’t really kept up with the times.
Bio: Tom works for the law firm of McGarry Bair in Grand Rapids. At McGarry Bair, Tom puts his intellect to work in very interesting ways — designing and introducing
