“Karaoke in Reverse for Piano Concertos” by Matt DeJongh

 During my sabbatical last year in Liverpool, I fulfilled a life dream of playing a piano concerto. Instead of hiring an orchestra to accompany me, I was able to teach my computer to play the accompaniment. It's like Karaoke in reverse - the computer listens to my playing and matches the recording of the orchestra to my tempo.  In this presentation I will describe the technologies that make this possible, and then perform the Andante movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's A major piano concerto (K. 414) accompanied by my computer.
