The Hope College Concert Band will perform on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The Concert Band will perform a wide variety of music and will showcase a number of student conductors from the music-education program.
The selections will include works by George Gershwin, John Philip Sousa, Edwin Bagley, Robert Jaeger, Pavel Tchesnokoff /Frank Erickson and Vaughan Williams. The student conductors will be Genevieve DeHart, Andrew DePree, Matthew Gilbert, Charlie Jordan, Jessica Proper and Grace Stover.
The Concert Band is under the direction of Gabe Southard. Southard is an associate professor at Hope, where he also conducts the Wind Ensemble, and the Faculty and Student Collaborative Ensemble. He completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts in conducting at Michigan State University, and has performed with the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Lucca, Italy, Opera Orchestra, as well as a number of community orchestras.
