Concert Band Performance

The Concert Band at Hope College will perform on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

The program will include “Four Scottish Dances,” by Malcolm Arnold; “Chester,” by William Schuman; “Toccata for Band,” by Girolamo Frescobaldi; “Shenandoah,” by Frank Ticheli; “Flourish for Band,” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; and “Nobles of the Mystic Shrine,” by John Phillip Sousa.  In addition to Southard, the concert will feature student conductors including Anna Janowski, Charlie Jordan, Jessica Proper and Leah Reinardy.

The Concert Band is conducted by Dr. Gabe Southard, who is an associate professor at Hope, where he also conducts the Wind Ensemble, and the Faculty and Student Collaborative Ensemble. He completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts in conducting at Michigan State University, and has performed with the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Lucca, Italy, Opera Orchestra, as well as with a number of community orchestras.
