DESCRIPTION:For a 25th consecutive year\, hundreds of Hope College students
  are putting their time and talents into the campus-wide Dance Marathon fun
 draiser.\n\nOrganized by Hope students\, the 24-hour event is conducted on 
 behalf of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in downtown Grand Rapids\, both t
 o raise funds and to build awareness of the hospital’s work. It will be hel
 d at the college’s Dow Center\, with the main portion of the marathon begin
 ning with a kickoff celebration on Friday\, March 1\, at 6 p.m.\n\nThe tota
 l raised will be announced during a celebration that will begin at 4 p.m. o
 n Saturday\, March 2\, as the Dance Marathon’s 5 p.m. conclusion approaches
 .\n\nMembers of the public are encouraged to observe at any point.  A varie
 ty of events have been scheduled to punctuate the marathon\, including test
 imonies by families served by the hospital\, various performances by studen
 t and local groups\, and the popular annual lip-sync.\n\nActivities on beha
 lf of the marathon began shortly after the beginning of the fall semester a
 nd have involved more than 30 teams organized by student organizations or i
 ndependent groups of students.  The 800-plus Hope students who will be part
 icipating in the March 1-2 Dance Marathon include not only dancers but mora
 le boosters\, and others in a variety of administrative and support roles.\
 n\nTo emphasize the children that the marathon exists to help\, the Dance M
 arathon’s student organizers coordinate a variety of activities during the 
 course of the school year to connect with families and children served by H
 elen DeVos Children’s Hospital.  In addition\, each family is paired with o
 ne of the participating student groups.\n\nStudents involved with Dance Mar
 athon have raised funds for the effort in a variety of ways\, from a 5K Don
 ut Run during Hope’s fall “One Big Weekend” combining Homecoming and Family
  Weekend\; to writing letters to family and friends\; to a silent auction.\
 n\nAffiliated with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals\, Dance Maratho
 n at Hope is one of more than 400 such efforts at colleges\, universities a
 nd high schools nationwide. Miracle Network Dance Marathon has raised more 
 than $350 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since its incept
 ion in 1991.\n\nDance Marathon first came to Hope in March of 2000. Though 
 a school of the college’s size was only expected to raise about $5\,000 in 
 its first year\, the students raised more than $23\,000. In the 24 years fr
 om 2000 through 2023\, Hope’s Dance Marathon raised a total of more than $4
  million.  Last year’s event\, held on Friday-Saturday\, March 3-4\, 2023\,
  raised more than $380\,000.\n\nHelen DeVos Children’s Hospital provides co
 mprehensive clinical care to the children of West Michigan and beyond\, and
  has consistently been recognized in the U.S. News & World Report national 
 rankings. It offers advanced pediatric specialty care with more than 300 pe
 diatric providers in more than 50 services and programs.  With partnerships
  at more than 30 health care facilities\, the hospital also assists with me
 dical care strategy and education throughout Michigan.\n\nIn order to help 
 support the vast number of children who visit the hospital each year\, all 
 proceeds from the marathon will go directly towards the funding of special 
 programs that are designed to make the young patients’ visits to the hospit
 al more bearable\; helping the families of the children to deal with their 
 illnesses\; and supplies related to treatment and care.\n\nChildren’s Mirac
 le Network Hospitals is an international non-profit organization dedicated 
 to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children’s hospi
 tals throughout North America.\n\nAdditional information about Dance Marath
