DESCRIPTION:“CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENCE” by Greg McCall ’83\, Retired Mechanica
l Engineer \n\nWhy is a mechanical engineer talking on “Climate Change Scie
nce”? Receiving a liberal arts education at Hope College can allow you to
have great flexibility in your career path. It was this flexibility that a
llowed Greg to spend part of his time following Climate Science at American
Electric Power. This presentation will look at the core science of how the
sun’s energy interacts with the earth’s atmosphere and discuss our underst
anding of the processes involved. Greg will be providing several important
observations based on his experience with environmental and energy enginee
ring.\n\nGreg McCall was a Principal Engineer at American Electric Power (A
EP) and an experienced leader in the Environmental management system space.
He worked for AEP for over three decades\, starting in the Analytical and
Research & Development Section of the Mechanical Engineering Division befor
e transitioning to the Acid Rain program in Environmental Affairs in 1992\,
and then again to the Environmental Strategy and Compliance Planning Group
of Environmental Services in 1995. He holds a Master’s of Science degree f
rom Purdue University’s School of Mechanical Engineering\, as well as a Bac
helor of Science degree in Physics (with a minor in Business Administration
 ) from Hope College.\n\nAt AEP\, Greg’s responsibilities included environme
ntal management systems\, global climate change technical/science support\,
and emission information management (Greenhouse Gas emission inventories).
\n\nGreg is married to Bryn and has two married sons\, all of whom are Hope
College graduates. He also has two grandchildren.\n\nAfter Greg retired fr
om AEP in 2020\, he and his wife moved back to Michigan to be near family.
They are putting down roots and becoming involved with a new church family
  in the Holland area.
