Exhibition: Wasting Time

This is a past event.

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 10am to 5pm

The De Pree Art Center and Gallery is presenting an exhibition by artist Kim Faler titled “Wasting Time” from Thursday, Oct. 6, through Wednesday, Nov. 2.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Faler describes her work as coming out of the pandemic, exploring the beauty of the mind wandering into the minutiae of everyday life.

Her interdisciplinary practices source content from daily experience, and question the value placed on memories, routines and the passage of time. Recent exhibitions include MASS MoCA (North Adams, Massachusetts), PALO Gallery (New York City, New York), the David Winton Bell Gallery at Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island), the Beeler Gallery at the Columbus College of Art & Design (Columbus, Ohio) and the Saint Kate Hotel (Milwaukee, Wisconsin).

Faler has received numerous awards, including the Joan Mitchell MFA Grant, a U.S. Fulbright Scholarship (to Brazil), the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Residency (Captiva, Florida), the Artpace International Artist-in-Residence Program (San Antonio, Texas) and the Kohler Artist/Industry Program (Sheboygan, Wisconsin). Her work has recently been featured in the New York Times, The Boston Globe, Wallpaper Magazine and Architectural Digest.

The De Pree Gallery is open Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11, because of the college’s fall break. For those without a Hope College ID (necessary to gain access through the front door), please call 616-395-7500 to gain entry. Visitors may also register on the gallery’s website at hope.edu/depree
