Why a Christian college? (We'll be exploring questions suggested by the Arthur Holmes book, The Idea of a Christian College, which all faculty received at Pre-College Conference. No need to read Holmes in advance to participate in the discussion).
Hope faculty please join colleagues in lunchtime conversations about what our faith commitments might look like in the classroom.
Lunch is on us!
Please grab lunch in Phelps Dining Hall and take it to the Maas Conference Room.
As professors at a Christian college, we do many things common to those who teach at all colleges and universities. For example, we advise students, place course objectives in the context of curricular and institutional goals, design assignments, assess our students' work, etc. However, what might those practical aspects of teaching look like from a Christ-centered perspective? How might we not only conceive of our vocation in the context of the historic Christian faith but also carry it out in such a way that our students will know that we are Christ's disciples? Although graduate school did not train us to answer these questions, we are part of a community devoted to our continuing formation in Christ-centered higher education. Please join your colleagues in lunchtime conversations about what our faith commitments might look like in the classroom.
