Text as Data in the Social Sciences and Humanities

Join us for an interdisciplinary conversation about the potentials and pitfalls of leveraging computational methods and new technologies for analyzing large amounts of text data in the humanities and interpretive social sciences. This Frost Center Colloquium will launch a series of three informal workshops throughout the semester, focusing on the use of emerging technologies to get at fundamental questions about the human experience through the application of humanities and social science methods of inquiry. We’ll also be thinking about doing the work of creating deep connections across disciplines, because the technology we use can only help find patterns in the data — it can't impart or adjudicate meaning in those patterns. That is the role of the researcher and it is humanistic and interpretive work at its core.
