Join us from 11-12 pm on November 7th for a book discussion on the 2024 Hope College NEA Big Read Lakeshore book: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The book discussion will be followed by a gallery talk on Whose American Dream? an exhibition organized to complement the 2024 Hope College NEA Big Read Lakeshore program.
About the exhibition:
The books selected for the 2024 Hope College NEA Lakeshore Big Read Program—The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang, Mexikid by Pedro Martín, and Dreamers by Yuyi Morales—all deal in various ways with the nature of the “American Dream”. The seven artworks in the exhibition explore the American Dream and the social groups that historically did not have full access to that dream. All of the artworks can be found within the Artist / Activist: Speaking Truth to Power exhibition and belong to the Kruizenga Art Museum’s permanent collection.
Whose American Dream? will be on view through December 14th.
