 for Natural and Applied Sciences is pleased to welcome Dr. Michael Guillen 
 to campus as this year’s Gentile Lectureship speaker. Dr. Guillen will pres
 ent “The Four Kinds of Truth\,” based on topics explored in his most recent
  and best-selling book\, “Believing is Seeing: A Physicist Explains How Sci
 ence Shattered His Atheism and Revealed the Necessity of Faith.”\n\nDr. G w
 as born in East Los Angeles\, where he dreamed of becoming a scientist. The
  dream took him to UCLA\, where he earned a B.S. in physics and mathematics
 . Then to Cornell\, where he earned an M.S. in experimental physics and a 3
 D Ph.D. in physics\, mathematics and astronomy. For eight years thereafter\
 , he was an award-winning physics instructor at Harvard University. He’s al
 so received honorary doctorates from the University of Maryland and Pepperd
 ine University.\n\nDr. G is known and loved by millions as the ABC News Sci
 ence Editor\, a post he filled for fourteen years (1988-2002). He appeared 
 regularly on Good Morning America\, 20/20\, Nightline and World News Tonigh
 t. He also hosted Where Did It Come From?\, a weekly\, one-hour primetime s
 eries for The History Channel. He is a three-time Emmy Award winner and a m
 ember of the renowned Explorers Club.\n\nDr. G also hosted and wrote the PB
 S special Wit\, Grit\, and Robot Games\; the ten-part PBS series Great Mind
 s of Business and Great Minds of Medicine\; and the ABC-TV special SeaWorld
  Mother Earth Celebration with co-host Mayim Bialik (BLOSSOM\, BIG BANG THE
 ORY). He’s also advised and consulted for studios such as MGM\, Fox and Bue
 na Vista\, as well as Walt Disney’s Epcot Center.\n\nDr. G also produced LI
 TTLE RED WAGON\, an award-winning theatrical motion picture written by Patr
 ick Sheane Duncan (MR. HOLLAND’S OPUS)\, directed by David Anspaugh (RUDY\,
  HOOSIERS).\n\nDr. G has written hundreds of articles for many publications
 \, including Science News\, Psychology Today\, The New York Times\, and The
  Washington Post. He’s an international best-selling author of many books\,
  including: Bridges to Infinity: the Human Side of Mathematics\; Five Equat
 ions that Changed the World: the Power and Poetry of Mathematics\; Can a Sm
 art Person Believe in God?\; Amazing Truths: How Science and the Bible Agre
 e\; The End of Life As We Know It: Ominous News From The Frontiers of Scien
 ce.\n\nDr. G is president of Spectacular Science Productions and Spectacula
 r Science Foundation. He’s presently developing a number of television and 
 movie projects. He speaks all over the world and provides science-related c
 ommentary pieces for Fox News. He resides with his family in Dallas\, Texas

 disciplinary Lectureship at Hope was established in 2005 by faculty colleag
 ues\, former students\, and friends of Dr. James Gentile. Gentile joined th
 e Hope faculty in 1976 and served as dean for the Natural and Applied Scien
 ces Division from 1988 to 2005\, when he became president of Research Corpo
 ration\, a private foundation in Tucson\, Arizona\, that supports basic res
 earch in the physical sciences. After retiring from Research Corporation\, 
 he returned to Hope to serve a two-year appointment as dean from July 2013 
 through June 2015.\n\nPast lecturers include:\n\n2005 Dr. Marilyn Aardema\,
