“An Introduction to the Environmental Consulting World from a Recent Graduate and a Certified Professional Geologist.”
by Katherine Kay‘21 and JP Buckingham’99, Geologists at Triterra, Lansing, MI

Environmental consulting is a sometimes forgotten field when geology students are considering possible career paths after graduation. A 2021 Hope College graduate and a 1999 Hope College graduate both working at Triterra, a rapidly growing Environmental Consulting firm based in Lansing, share their experiences working in this field while also working in separate divisions within the company. With significant differences in the amount of experiences between these two graduates, there’s the opportunity to learn more about typical groups in an Environmental Consulting firm like Due Diligence, Investigation and Remediation, Hazardous Waste Management, Brownfield Redevelopment, Natural Resources Management, etc. Also, any questions about navigating the job market and industry and what to expect as a new geologist following graduation are always welcomed.

Official groundwater monitoring equipment, more commonly referred to as Low-Flow monitoring equipment, will also be brought in due to the increasing need in numerous geology-based industries for individuals to have been at least exposed to this equipment. Other types of sampling and monitoring can also be explained if requested.
