“dazzling, original performance…hauntingly beautiful compositions… the dress is worthy of a gallery installation all its own.” – Los Angeles Times
“a strikingly beautiful and multi-sensorial experience that transports the audience to a world of musical genius and elegance but also social restrictions and prejudice.” – South China Morning Post
The Other Mozart is an award-winning play telling the true, forgotten story of Nannerl Mozart, the sister of Amadeus – a prodigy, keyboard virtuoso, and composer who performed throughout Europe with her brother to equal acclaim, but her work and her story faded away, lost to history. This play brings her back to the stage.
History is made of stories we choose to tell and stories we choose not to tell. Nannerl Mozart’s story is important today because it is not a tale of a singular villain thwarting a female genius. It is but one example of a systemic tragedy happening innumerable times throughout history.
The solo piece has been presented internationally, in four languages, performed by only four actors. The play is set in a stunning 18-foot dress (designed by Magdalena Dabrowska of the National Theater of Poland) that serves as an integral part of the performance.
