Jazz Combos Concert

A pair of jazz combos at Hope College will perform in concert on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the John and Dede Howard Recital Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.


The public is invited. Admission is free.

The Iridium Combo, coached by Steve Talaga, will perform “Mr. Clean,” by Weldon Irvine; “Cantaloupe Island,” by Herbie Hancock; “My Little Suede Shoes,” by Charlie Parker; “Speak No Evil,” by Wayne Shorter; and “Spain,” by Chick Corea. Participants in the combo include: Daniel Wade, trumpet; Elijah Maxwell, tenor saxophone; Samantha Mattingly, piano; Dylan Sherman, bass; Zachary Snoek, drums and other percussion; and Tyler Koran, drums and other percussion.

The Blue Note Combo, coached by Tom Lockwood, will play “Here’s that Rainy Day” and “But Beautiful,” by Jimmy Van Heusen; “In a Sentimental Mood,” by Duke Ellington; “Red Baron,” by Billy Cobham; and “I’ll be Seeing You,” by Sammy Fain. Participants in the combo include: Michael Pineda, saxophone and guitar; Clifton Metcalf, Hammond organ; Carlos Flores, drums; and Ethan Henry, drums.
