In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Hope College Many Voices Project will present a staged reading of The River Bride by Marisela Treviño Orta on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m. The performance will occur in the Schaap Auditorium in the Bultman Student Center.
Directed by junior Alegría Guzmán of Quito, Ecuador with Professor Bianca Ciungan as Assistant Director and Professor Eric Van Tassell as Lighting Director, The River Bride is a script set in a small, Brazilian fishing village. When a handsome young man is pulled from a river, two sisters struggle to stay true to each other as they wrestle with love, jealousy, and regret.
The cast includes first-year Ángela Olssen of Mexico City, Mexico; sophomores Davi Zola de Araujo of Bangkok, Thailand and Karina Reyes of Holland, MI; senior Isabella Tafarello of Campinas, São Paulo; and Hope faculty members Assistant Professor of English Pablo Peschiera of Holland, MI (immi. Lima, Perú) and Chaplain Carlos Peña of Bogotá, Columbia.
The Hope College Theatre Department in cooperation with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, chose stories representing a wide range of characters from diverse backgrounds as the Many Voices Project (MVP).
Viewing of this performance will be free of charge. There is limited seating, and tickets are non-reservable.
