Médar Serrata was born in the Dominican Republic in the 60s and raised there the 70s and 80s. An Associate Professor of Spanish at Grand Valley State University, Professor Serrata wrote his doctoral dissertation on the Trujillista intellectuals, and will present about Truillo’s dictatorship and share his perspective on In the Time of The Butterflies by Julia Alvarez’s.

Hope College’s NEA Big Read Lakeshore is an annual month-long community-wide reading program that takes place along the Lakeshore every November in collaboration with many partner organizations such as: Allegan District Library, Allendale Township Library, Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony, City of Holland, CultureWorks, Fennville District Library, Gary Byker Library of Hudsonville, Herrick District Library, Holland Area Arts Council, Holland Museum, Howard Miller Public Library, Loutit District Library, Ottawa Area Intermediate School District, Patmos Library, Ready for School, Saugatuck Center for the Arts, Saugatuck-Douglas District Library, Spring Lake District Library, Western Theological Seminary.
