Scientists have identified a group of fundamental constants of nature
associated with the universe such that if you alter the values by a small
amount life as we know it would not be possible; evolution would not be
possible. This condition then begs the question, why is our universe fine-
tuned? Many scientists and philosophers have debated the issue in board
ranging-multidisciplinary discussions while raising deep questions such as,
does the universe have intelligent life forms built into it from the beginning?,
do these constants require an explanation?, or is the topic uninteresting
since we are here?
Come and join us as physicist Professor Gonthier and philosopher
Professor Rubio discuss their views on the subject in the Maas Conference
room (adjoining the Maas auditorium) on Wednesday, November 16th at
6:30 pm for snacks and refreshments and presentations at 7 pm followed
by question and answers.
Sponsored by the Departments of Philosophy and Physics and the Deans
of Arts and Humanities and Natural and Applied Sciences.
