Sara Wachter-Boettcher: “Inclusive Design, Ethical Tech and All of Us”

Sara Wachter-Boettcher, who is author of the acclaimed book “Technically Wrong: Sexist Apps, Biased Algorithms and Other Threats of Toxic Tech,” will present the address “Inclusive Design, Ethical Tech and All of Us” on Tuesday, April 2, at 4 p.m. at Hope College in Winants Auditorium of Graves Hall.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

Wachter-Boettcher is a product and content strategy consultant who has worked with digital products since 2005.  Published in 2017, “Technically Wrong: Sexist Apps, Biased Algorithms, and Other Threats of Toxic Tech” (W.W. Norton) was named one of the best tech books of the year by Wired, and one of the top business books of the year by Fast Company.

As the principal of Rare Union, she’s led strategy and UX projects and facilitated workshops for tech companies large and small, as well as a wide range of Fortune 100 corporations, education and research institutions, local and federal government offices, and arts and culture organizations.  She also co-hosts “Strong Feelings,” a weekly podcast about work, friendship and feminism.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the college’s Department of Computer Science, Dean for Natural and Applied Sciences, Mellon Grand Challenges Initiative, and Women’s and Gender Studies Program.
