DESCRIPTION:The 35th annual Hope College Musical Showcase will be presented
  on Friday\, Feb. 9\, at 7 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller C
 enter for Musical Arts. The concert will feature 200 Hope College students 
 performing in the Department of Music’s major instrumental and vocal ensemb
 les and soloists.\n\nHope College students take the stage for this fast-pac
 ed\, musical spectacular\, during which audience members hear everything fr
 om opera to jazz. The hardest part for those attending is containing their 
 enthusiasm\, at least at first. In the tradition of the quick-moving musica
 l event\, audience members are asked to hold their applause until intermiss
 ion and the end of the performance.\n\nVocal performances include junior Ma
 icee Bishop of Kalamazoo singing “Hyacinth\,” by Margaret Bonds\; senior Em
 lin Munch of Traverse City singing “Nacht und Träume\,” by Franz Schubert\;
  and senior Jane Ellen Altevogt of Ann Arbor singing “Beside the Sea\,” by 
 Florence Price. All singers will be accompanied by collaborative pianists C
 hristina Krause and Jane Bosko.\n\nPiano soloists include senior Anna Triez
 enberg of Midlothian\, Illinois\, performing Paul Ben-Haim’s “Capriccio Agi
 tato”\; freshman Kellen Woolhiser of Bay City performing “A Gershwin Melody
 \,” by George Gershwin\; and freshman Carter Schmelz of Clarence\, New York
 \, performing “Prélude\, Op. 43\, No. 1\,” by Reinhold Glière.\n\nOrgan sol
 oists include junior Caitlyn Brown of Kalamazoo playing “Fanfare in D\,” by
  Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens\; and senior Sam Grosskreuz of Newburg\, Wisconsin
 \, playing “Toccata\,” from “Suite Gothique\, Op. 25\,” by Léon Boëllmann.\
 n\nThe featured large vocal ensembles include the Chapel Choir\, conducted 
 by Peter Kadeli\, singing “Wade in the Water\,” by Moses Hogan\, and “Down 
 to the River to Pray\,” arranged by David L. Mennicke\; and SPERA\, conduct
 ed by Pamela Pierson\, singing “Hark\, I Hear the Harps Eternal\,” arranged
  by Mark Hayes\, and “Where the Light Begins\,” by Susan LaBarr. SPERA will
  be accompanied by collaborative pianists Allison Keep and Anna Triezenberg
 .\n\nThe featured instrumental ensembles include the Concert Band\, conduct
 ed by Anand Sukumaren\, playing “Abrams Pursuit\,” by David Holsinger\; the
  Orchestra\, conducted by Samuel Pang\, performing “Intermezzo” from “Caval
 leria Rusticana\,” by Pietro Mascagni\; and the Jazz Arts Collective\, cond
 ucted by Robert Shipley\, playing “Lady Bird\,” by Tadd Dameron (arranged b
 y Mark Taylor)\, and “Straight Ahead\,” by Count Basie\, arranged by Sammy 
 Nestico.\n\nTickets are $10 for regular admission and $7 for Hope College f
 aculty and staff members. Admission is free for Hope students. Tickets are 
 available at the Events and Conferences Office located downtown in the Ande
 rson-Werkman Financial Center (100 E. 8th Street). The office is open for t
 icket sales on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at (616) 39
