“Still Listening” features three new sculptures created especially for this exhibition by artist Todd Erickson, alongside twelve previous works by the artist. A graduate of Hope College and Cranbrook Academy of Art, Erickson has worked at the College of Creative Studies in Detroit for the past 36 years. He is also the creator of Ziibi Elpidos, the sculpture standing in front of the entrance to the Kruizenga Art Museum. Using tree branches collected while exploring the wilderness of the state of Michigan Erickson assembles organic-looking but carefully composed sculptures that are then cut into pieces, molded, cast in bronze and reassembled. The resulting pieces resemble three-dimensional calligraphic brushstrokes, and evoke a variety of experiences when viewed from different angles.
