"Gene Therapy 101--What you should know" by Dr. Anne Connolly
 
 
Rodger Kobes ('63 Hope College) and Michael Keller have established the Science and Human Health Lectureship so that students at Hope College and the greater Holland community may be exposed to leading-edge endeavors in the translation of science to human health. The inaugural lectureship by Dr. Anne Connolly will address gene therapy as an innovative strategy addressing human health. Dr. Anne Connolly is chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurology at the Columbus Nationwide Children’s and an expert in gene therapy for children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Her research has focused on neuromuscular disease and neuroimmunology. Dr. Connolly's career of excellence in research, in teaching, and in the clinic shows the positive impact of translational science on human health. The General Audience Lecture "Gene therapy 101--What you should know"" will be an introduction to gene therapy and the Technical Lecture "Advances in Gene therapy for Children with Spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy--Why the size and site of the gene/protein matters" will plunge into the research. Rodger Kobes and Michael Keller will be attending these inaugural lectures.

The General Audience Lecture and  "Gene Therapy 101--What you should know"; is on Thursday, September 26th, reception at 6:30 PM, lecture at 7:00 PM, in Winants Auditorium, Graves Hall, Hope College.

The Technical Lecture "Advances in Gene therapy for Children with Spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy--Why the size and site of the gene/protein matters" is at 4 PM on Friday, September 27th, in Winants Auditorium, Graves Hall, Hope College.
