DESCRIPTION:"Gene Therapy 101--What you should know" by Dr. Anne Connolly  
 Rodger Kobes ('63 Hope College) and Michael Keller have established the Sci
 ence and Human Health Lectureship so that students at Hope College and the 
 greater Holland community may be exposed to leading-edge endeavors in the t
 ranslation of science to human health. The inaugural lectureship by Dr. Ann
 e Connolly will address gene therapy as an innovative strategy addressing h
 uman health. Dr. Anne Connolly is chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurol
 ogy at the Columbus Nationwide Children’s and an expert in gene therapy for
  children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Her
  research has focused on neuromuscular disease and neuroimmunology. Dr. Con
 nolly's career of excellence in research\, in teaching\, and in the clinic 
 shows the positive impact of translational science on human health. The Gen
 eral Audience Lecture "Gene therapy 101--What you should know"" will be an 
 introduction to gene therapy and the Technical Lecture "Advances in Gene th
 erapy for Children with Spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystr
 ophy--Why the size and site of the gene/protein matters" will plunge into t
 he research. Rodger Kobes and Michael Keller will be attending these inaugu
 ral lectures.\nThe General Audience Lecture and  "Gene Therapy 101--What yo
 u should know"\; is on Thursday\, September 26th\, reception at 6:30 PM\, l
 ecture at 7:00 PM\, in Winants Auditorium\, Graves Hall\, Hope College.\n\n
