Wind Ensemble pre-tour concert

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The Wind Ensemble will be playing sections from its upcoming tour throughout Ohio, Michigan and New Jersey, and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The ensemble will be playing six concerts over the course of the college’s spring break, which will run Friday, March 16, through Sunday, March 25. Pieces on the program will include: “Symphonic Prelude,” by Mark Camphouse; “Variations on a Korean Folk Song,” by John Barnes Chance; “Star Spangled Spectacular,” by George M. Cohan, arranged by John Cacavas; scenes from “the Louvre,” by Norman Dello Joio; selections from “Lincolnshire Posy,” by Percy Aldridge Grainger; “Hands Across the Sea,” by John Philip Sousa; “Orient Express,” by Philip Sparke; “Rapsodia Sefaradi,” by Alexandre Travossos; selections from “Kilimanjaro: An African Portrait,” by Robert Washburn; and “Sleep,” by Eric Whitacre.

The Hope College Wind Ensemble, directed by Gabe Southard, associate professor of music, is the premier wind group on the Hope campus, and performs a wide variety of music, from standard works, to cutting-edge, 20th-century works, to chamber pieces.  The Wind Ensemble performs several concerts each semester both on-campus and off-campus, including a Halloween concert and during Musical Showcase.
